Making the Most of McAuliffe
Making the most of McAuliffe throughout the school year . . .
includes weaving your conference experience into a comprehensive professional development plan for you, your school, or your district. NHSTE, in partnership with other state organizations such as NHSAA, the NHDOE, the LESCN professional development centers, ATECH, and SERESC, Inc, is making that easier every year!

The following Conference Extensions are currently planned . . .
Continuing in 2009-2010 ~ Monthly Geek Meets
In 2008, Pam McLeod, the current NHSTE president, began the "Geek Meet" events to support the growing technical needs of our systems, network, and infrastructure administrators. Generally held at schools around the state on the second Friday of each month, the Geek Meets provide an important networking opportunity - no pun intended! Details for these meetings are still in the development stages but proposed topics include:
  • Firewalls and networking tools
  • Enterprise wireless systems
  • Database systems to support data-driven instruction
  • Virtualization
  • SharePoint Server
  • Windows 7 deployment and imaging
Mark your calendar: proposed dates for 2009-2010 are 10/9, 11/13 12/12, 1/8, 2/13, 3/12, 4/19, & 5/7.
If you have ideas or are willing to host a Geek Meet at your school/district, please contact Pam McLeod (pmcleod@alton.k12.nh.us) or Sonja Gonzalez (sonjag@comcast.net) as they are still shaping the schedule and identifying topics for the coming year.
Tech Teachers SIG ~ Integration Across the Curriculum Series
To date, the Tech Teachers integration sessions have covered Adaptive/Assistive Technologies, Reading/Language Arts, Mathematics, the Humanities (art, music, and physical education), Secondary Math, Robotics and Engineering, Essential Teaching Tools, and Digital Storytelling. The 2009-2010 workshops include:
  • 1-to-1 Learning, Web 2.0, & Netbook Deployment: Hear how districts around NH are bringing 1-to-1 computer access to their students using affordable netbooks and free Web 2.0 tools. (October 22, 2009)
  • K-8 Mathematics & Web 2.0 Resources: View the many quality programs and resources to support the math curriculum. (January 20, 2010)
  • Creativity, Unified Arts, & Essential Tools: Come and discover how to bring creativity and engagement to the unified arts programs (art, music, and physical education) with technology tools, applications, and web-based resources! (March 24, 2010)
Kita Maciolek returns to the NHSTE board as Chair of the Tech Teachers SIG (Special Interest Group) for the 2009/2010 school year. The NHSTE Tech Teachers SIG integration workshops have attracted hundreds of classroom teachers since they began five years ago.

Come join the fun!
Tech Coordinators SIG ~ Keeping Ahead of the Curve Series
Dr. Royce Robertson, our TC SIG Chair for the past three years, has headed to Syracuse, New York to be closer to family. By fall, NHSTE will have a new chairperson for this SIG.

In the mean time, if you would like to suggest a speaker or topic, please contact our incoming president, Pam McLeod at pmcleod@alton.k12.nh.us.
Some of the potential topics suggested for the NHSTE Technology Coordinator's SIG meetings for 2009~2010 include.
  • Technology coordinator's role in creating 21st century learning environments
  • Round table discussions on integrating technology resources into the curriculum
  • Server Virtualization, Sharepoint Implementation
NHSTE plans to hold most meetings at the Plymouth State University facility in Concord during the months of January, March, and May of 2010. A fall 2009 event is also being considered this year.
Where are your pain points when it comes to staying abreast of new integration strategies and emerging technologies?

How can NHSTE help address your challenges and meet your needs?
