provide educators with both the exposure and training necessary to investigate the potential of a variety of

Amy and Celeste provide participants with an understanding of 1) the different functions of the iPad, 2) ways it can be used as a teacher centered tool, and 3) how it can be utilized by students. Several categories of applications will be "explored" including programs for management, organization, grading, games, video production, communication, virtual simulations, and more. You have heard of smart phones? Now there's a smart pen! A Livescribe pen uses a high-speed infrared camera on dotted paper to track everything a user writes, taps, or draws. With a built-in microphone, it captures audio of any writing session. And it creates digital files that can turn handwriting into type (additional software necessary), while storing files on its built in drive. Learn how to use your Livescribe pen, what it's capable of, and how you can use it in the classroom. Resources for classroom application will be shared. Together with the Livescribe paper, this is an amazing tool with exciting applications for educators. PLEASE NOTE: This hands-on workshop is offered as a PSDC-MITI (Master It & Take It) ONLY, your MITI registration fee includes the cost of the workshop AND the device.

Android tablets are ideal for schools, with great features such as camera card readers or USB ports and very reasonable pricing. Some have detachable keyboards and extra batteries. Best of all, they support Flash-based websites so that you may leverage the online applications to which your school already subscribes! The Android marketplace currently has more than 250,000 apps available, making these tablets a very practical classroom tool. This session will be facilitated by Alton Central School Technology Director Pam McLeod and Elementary Teacher Pam Mathews, who are piloting Android tablets in a Grade Two classroom. We will focus on setup and use of your tablet; working with Google Apps and editing Google Docs; social networking; educational apps for students in all grade levels; and practical ideas for integrating Android into your classroom. We will demonstrate Flash-based educational subscription sites which are not supported by the iPad but do work on the Android platform. Please create a free Google account prior to the session. The specific Android Tablet model selected will be posted in October on the conference website at www.nhcmtc.org.
This hands-on workshop is offered as a PSDC-MITI (Master It & Take It) ONLY, your MITI registration fee includes the cost of the workshop AND the device.
