Who Are You? -- Building an Open Source 8th Grade ICT Portfolio Robert Wiesenauer, Computers/Technology Teacher, Jaffrey-Rindge Middle School, and Ryan Early, Jaffrey-Rindge Middle School |
|
* E2 Grades: 6-8 |
Eighth grade students from Jaffrey-Rindge Middle School will be sharing work they have done in designing and constructing their ICT portfolio. These students have Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Computer/Technology as their core classes; as well as rotating through various Unified Arts classes. Their Computer/Technology class is held in a Linux lab with thin-client computers, although they will also have occasional access to a Windows computer lab. Much of the free open source software they are using is also available for Macintosh and Windows computers. Students will be doing a little bit of a lot of different things using technology, and will be guided in the process with expectations, rubrics, and the ICT standards which can all be found in our MOODLE course. Some of the projects that students will be doing include: Programming using Turtle Logo, Python, and Scratch; Image Manipulation including self portraits; Desktop Publishing (the students will be publishing the school yearbook as part of the curriculum); Mind Mapping; Spreadsheets, Database use, etc. |
