Student Information System Integration with Moodle via Web Services Matt Oquist, Open Source Software Engineering Consult., Majen.net Consulting, and Brett Heath-Wlaz |
|
D3 Level: Advanced Grades: All |
Presenters demonstrate how user accounts, courses, teacher-course assignments, and student enrollments can be automatically and continuously imported into Moodle from any Student Information System (SIS). This integration is designed to minimize the above aspects of interactive Moodle administration, so that technology coordinators can spend time doing more interesting things. This integration utilizes Moodle Networking (MNet), a Web services protocol, incorporating authentication and public-key encryption. This integration accesses the SIS database directly (read-only) making it available for any SIS, though a Moodle plugin must be written for each. This is a technical session. Each participant should expect to gain an understanding of what some schools have done, as well as a general picture of the other possibilities. Participants who use PowerSchool may be able to set up PowerSchool-Moodle integration after attending this session. Other participants with any background and interest in programming may be able to develop and use integration plugins for other SISes after attending this session. |
