Make your own robot using a LEGO NXT kit! Directions and help are provided as needed as each group experiences simple programs and learns how to make the robot move. A slideshow also presents many of the possibilities of how to use robotics in the classroom or as an extra-curricular activity. A middle school educator who has been teaching robotics in her school for nine years and a staff member from US FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) co-present this session. US FIRST is based in Manchester and supports robotics education throughout the country. FIRST organizes FLL, FIRST LEGO League, a robotics competition for middle school students. Find out how robotics can help to motivate students in math, science, and team building skills. Experience hands-on opportunities to explore and can ask questions on how to make it work in the classroom. Discover how schools can take classes to US FIRST for a week of robotics. |

Explore how eBooks can enhance the curriculum and enable students to access a wide array of research texts. Discuss strategies to help students learn how to evaluate texts for use in research. eBooks gives students access to many different kinds of books while also allowing students to view the same book. eBooks are available anywhere a student has access to the internet. This workshop focuses on how to best integrate eBooks into the social studies or language arts curriculum. |
